HISTORY /
This section is dedicated to the Long Island Gold Coast. For those of you who do not know, Long Island's north shore was once home to many businessmen and
entrepreneurs
in the late 19th century and early 20th century. People lived like kings and queens at the time, but the stock market crash in 1929 changed that lifestyle. There were over 700 mansions at its peak and now there are about 100 left. Many were demolished due to the expense of the upkeep of these grand palaces and people could not afford the maintenance. Luckily there are a few that are public and quite a few still in private hands. I have kept a mansion 'diary' of photographs for myself to remind me of how grandiose life was back then and how quickly it deteriorated and I thought I'd share a few on this site.
